While there are many upsides to summers (mangoes, holidays, etc.), the harsh sun rays are something that you need to be wary of. And if you have spent a bit too much time out or did not use the proper sun protection, you may be at the receiving end of burns, tan and rashes. To help you along the way, here are 6 natural remedies for sun damage.
Cane Sugar Scrub
One of the keys to revealing a glowing skin is to gently remove the outer layer that is full of dirt and grime. A body scrub thus works splendidly. You can apply the paste of cane sugar and honey mixed (in the ratio 1:1) all over the body and scrub for few minutes. Add a few drops of lemon if you have oily or sensitive skin. Leave it on for 10 minutes before washing. The honey will moisturise, repair the skin and bring out glow while cane sugar will gently exfoliate the dead skin cells.
Aloe Vera Gel
A wonder gel, aloe vera has long been used for skin ailments like rashes, acne and burns. Reason being, it has cooling as well as medicinal properties. This nature’s balm will help calm down sunburn and the damage that harsh rays have brought upon. The best way to get the gel is to slightly heat it and then smash it. Apply at before you go to bed.
Oiling the Skin
To restore the skin’s elasticity and texture, it is essential that you moisturise it properly. Coconut oil has abundant Vitamin E which not only moisturizes the skin but also reverses skin damage. Apply it all over the body and leave it on for 10 minutes before you take bath. You can also add few drops of essential oil to this oil which will also relax your body and mind.
Tan Removal Pack
The damage caused by the sun irritates us most when it leaves tan! Tomato and yoghurt mixed in the ratio 1:1 can be applied on to the skin after making it a paste. This can be kept for 10 minutes before washing off. Tomato has tan clearing properties while yoghurt will help in brightening the skin.
Cucumber Pack
After you are exposed to the sun for a continuous period, you need to cool down the skin. Make a paste of cucumber and add few drops of lemon to this pack. Lemon will help clear out any imperfections on the skin while cucumber will soothe and calm the skin.
Besan Pack
Make a paste of besan and honey by mixing 3 spoons of besan with 2 spoons of honey. This is an excellent pack which will clear out all the dead skin cells as well as make the skin brighter. Honey being an amazing humectant will restore all the lost glory of the skin!
It is best to stay indoors in this harsh weather between 10 to 3 pm. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated at all time
