Long, shiny and healthy hair is not an easily achievable goal. Unlike a few lucky who naturally have enviable locks, for the rest, it requires patience, effort and deliberate changes in hair care routine. Waiting for your tresses to transform can often feel like an assiduous and slow process. Don’t get discouraged, though, as we give you some professional tips that can help you.
What you need to know about the average growth of hair
It’s difficult to say how fast one’s hair grows as it differs from person to person. But on an average, it grows half an inch within a period of four weeks. Also keep in mind that the speed can be potentially influenced by a number of factors such as age, genetics, stress, diet, hormonal fluctuation, scalp health, medications and other health conditions.
What can help…
Below are some pointers that can help in your goal…
Getting it trimmed
A little trim on regular basis (preferably every two months) is a great tip that will naturally help hair growth. It may seem ironic, but to get more length, you need to chop it a bit. By doing so, you get rid of split ends that helps avoid hair fall as well as achieve shiny, voluminous and smooth hair.
Eat a healthy diet
What you eat will reflect on your hair too. So, make sure you have a well-balanced diet with plenty of proteins, vitamins and iron. Think green leafy vegetables, amla and eggs as the latter’s sulfur enable to produce the proteins collagen and keratin which are responsible for that lustrous mane.
Healthy scalp = Healthy life
Taking good care of scalp tops the list when it comes to achieving that gorgeous mane. Hair growth starts with a healthy scalp so treat it well by massaging and cleansing. Before washing your hair, apply some warm natural oil and massage it gently. This act promotes blood flow to the scalp, which provides stimulation to the hair follicles.
Shampoo and conditioners are a must
The main purpose of shampooing is to wash away dirt and product build-up, it also strips the natural oil from the hair which keeps them healthy and soft. For this very reason, it’s recommended to wash 2-3 times in a week. This allows the natural oils to penetrate your hair. It is the best lookout for products that are sulphate and paraben free as they cleanse the mane while maintaining its natural shine. Also, condition your tresses each time as they seal in the hair cuticle.
Say no to a hot shower
Rinse with cold water! A super steamy shower is rough for your hair and hence it is best to turn the water temperature down while cleaning. It helps the outer layer of the hair lay down more smoothly, to prevent moisture loss and heat damage.
Don’t brush your wet hair
Be cautious with wet tresses as it is weak and more susceptible to break. If you want to get some knots out post-shower, make sure you go easy on them. Start combing from the ends and gradually work your way up. Make sure that you use a wide-toothed comb.
You can also pay a visit to a salon for deep conditioning, a hair treatment that will leave your hair glossy and in a good health.
