Curly, wavy or straight – What suits you the best?

We have all heard the face shape conversation, jump up every time a makeup artist is doing a tutorial and yet so many times, we are still unable to figure out what our face shape really is and what is determined based on our face shape.

Worry not! We’re here to break the beans for you! To tell you what face shape wears the best hairstyle and the first step is to determine your face shape. So, join us on the ride!

Pro tip: Most people are usually a mix of traits of two face shapes due to a lot of reasons such as ageing, weight gain and more.

The most common face shapes are:

Round face:

Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than forehead and jawline which also measure the same. The angle of the jaw is soft and much less defined.

Hairstyle: WAVY

Movement around a round face hides the curves of your cheeks and chin, and a long haircut with layers is great for elongating the volume. The key is to have multiple layers that cut the roundness of the face while the waves add more body to the hair.

Diamond face:

Face length measures largest. Then, in descending order – cheekbones, forehead and the smallest is the jawline. The chin is pointed.

Hairstyle: CURLY

The attention needs to be drawn away from the narrow hairline and the pointed chin. Curls are the best way to give the illusion of cutting down the width and balancing the sharp chin. Short to shoulder-length, curly or wavy hairstyles look good.

Triangular face:

Jawline measures greater than cheekbones, which measure larger than the forehead.

Hairstyle: STRAIGHT/WAVY

The soft waves have a naturally soft appearance that falls nicely due to the layering. The middle part also helps to top divide the faceinto two long narrow portions to create the illusion of length. Straight and curly textures work great with this shape.

Square face:

All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp rather than rounded.

Hairstyle: CURLY/WAVY

Straight hair can be pretty unforgiving on square faces since the features are very strong. Curly or wavy is best-suited for this face shape to add more softness to the face.

Rectangle/Oblong face:

Face length is the greatest measurement. Forehead, cheekbones and jawline are similar in size.

Hairstyle: WAVY

The best haircuts for someone with an oblong face shape would be anything that is going to round out your face. Big waves and voluminous waves add that extra softness.
