Tip: Marilyn Monroe always had a glow, even on her lips. To get that effect, lightly apply a highlighter in dabbing motions near the cupids bow and also on the centre of the lower lip.
One of the biggest stars to cast a spell on Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe was synonymous with beauty and continues to be an inspiration to many. Be it her thick eyes lashes that fluttered or the bright bold lips that pouted, her makeup was just the right kind of seductive. Here are some tips on how you can recreate her look.
Contour and highlight – To add some feature to the face, contour it lightly after applying foundation and setting it with powder. Apply highlighter to the cheekbones, tip of the nose, forehead and chin.
Defined eye brow– Marilyn Monroe’s brow always looked filled. To get this, outline the eyebrows with a brow pencil and then fill in with a brow wax or brow pomade. A brown shade compliments most Indian skin tones and doesn’t make the brows look stark! With the outlining, emphasise on the arch of the brow.
Eye makeup – Chose an eyeshadow which is matte and close to your skin tone. Apply an eyeshadow primer and then gently pack the eyeshadow onto the lids. Neatly line the upper eyelid with intense black eyeliner of your choice.
Then put on a false lash which is long and thick. Apply it neatly with the eyelash glue and then coat it with mascara to merge both the false and natural lashes. If the glue can be seen on the eyelid, line it again with eyeliner so that it remains hidden. Take a skin tone eyeshadow with shimmer and apply it near the tear duct area so as to make the eyes pop.
Bold Lips- A striking feature of her makeup was her signature bold lips. To achieve the look, the lips must first be defined. Start with lining the cupid’s bow of the lips, and then define the rest of the edges. Choose a lip liner that is long lasting and matches the lipstick. The advantage of the lip liner is that it doesn’t allow the lipstick to feather or smudge off that easy.
The next step is to fill in the lips. Since the lip is already defined, it is now an easy task to colour the inside. Take a red lipstick and fill in gently. While choosing one always take into account your skin tone (i.e. warm tone or cool tone). This helps in deciding the shade better.

This makes the lips look very fuller. Her lips often looked matte, but if you want a glossy finish, apply a lip gloss on top of the lipstick.
