How to lessen facial scars and pigmentation

Here is some information that can help lessen the condition.

Facial scars or pigmentation is something that plagues many. While it is always best to seek the guidance of the dermatologist, here is some information that can help lessen the condition.

Facial Scars

Scars are the marks left on the surface of the skin due to wound, burn, accident, acne, etc. They are the result of the body’s natural process of healing.

What you can do:

To lighten your scar, you have to increase the intake of vitamin A, C and E as it accelerates the process of healing. Intake of food containing Selenium, Sulphur and Zinc is advised as well. Eat a lot of green leafy vegetables and incorporating oysters ( if you are not allergic to it) in your diet. All these work internally for the skin to recover from the scars.

As a treatment, you can massage Vitamin E oil on the target areas. If you don’t want to use any store-bought product, then you can break the vitamin E capsule and squeeze out the oil. Apply it in gentle circular motions into the scarred skin. The vitamin-E oil is a little bit thick, so take your time to massage it. Ideally, it can be applied after the shower when the body is a little bit wet. To accelerate the repair process use it daily in the mornings and at night. You can also use Vitamin C and retinol creams brighten up the area which is scarred as it renews the skin.

Home remedies:

Apply honey to the area where you have scars. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash off. Honey is anti-bacterial, moisturizing and makes the skin smooth. Another option is to apply the coffee scrub as coffee improves the blood circulation and firms the skin. To make this, take one tablespoon of ground coffee and add a little bit of raw milk to get a thick consistency. Keep it on for 20 minutes and scrub gently before washing off.

If the scarring is too evident, it is recommended to seek professional help and go to a dermatologist. Technology has advanced in the skin industry. Treatments such as microdermabrasion, micro- needling, lasers, chemical peels can help in removing the scars. Remember, it is always best to prevent scarring or treat them at the initial stage.

Pigmentation :

Hyper pigmentation or pigmentation (the presence of dark spots on the surface of the skin) occurs when the melanocytes present on our skin produces large quantum of melanin than usual. Pigmentation can also happen if you are pregnant or if you have a hormonal imbalance. Harmful rays of the sun can cause this condition too.

What you can do:

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has both UV-A and UV-B protection factor in it with PA+++. Reapply it after 3 hours of application. If it is not an immediate protection sunscreen, then wait for 20 minutes before stepping out of the home. Let it settle down on your skin before you start your makeup.

Home remedy:

Papaya mask: Papaya is proven to reduce the pigmentation of the skin. To make this you need 5 pieces of papaya (in the size of an ice cube), 3 tablespoons of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Blend all this and keep it on your skin for 20 minutes before rinsing off. It can be used twice a week for 3 months and you will see results soon.

If you suffer from extreme hyper pigmentation, then it is advised to apply creams specifically meant for it. The creams usually contain Kojic acid and glycolic acid. Please bear in mind, these creams should only be applied under the supervision of a doctor. The treatment may range from 3 to 6 months to show the lightening in hyper pigmentation. Vitamin E or Vitamin C oil can also be used on those pigmentation areas. Apart from these Lasers and chemical peels could also help.
