The red-carpet season has officially been rolled for the 2020s starting with the coveted Golden Globes awards. It’s one of those special ceremonies where apart from shining the spotlight on deserving talents, the shutterbugs go crazy with the fashion and beauty looks sported by celebs. Here, we draw inspiration from their beauty looks and give a step to step breakdown…
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Ruby Lips Glam Look
Priyanka looked surreal in her pink dress and ruby lips. Makeup artist Mary Phillips has beautifully played with colour pink cleverly in her look, using it in abundance in blush form to provide a youthful radiance. For the lips, she opted for a dazzling ruby red which perfectly complemented her warm tone nicely.
Steps to recreate this look:
- Start with applying moisturiser on freshly cleansed skin.
- Fill in the eyebrows with an eyebrow filler and set it with a brow mascara. The finish should be in-between; neither too strong nor absolutely natural.
- Prime eyelids and set the primer or concealer with powder.
- Take a light brown matte eyeshadow and define the crease with it by blending slightly above and below the crease. You may use another lighter brown shade, which is slightly darker than your natural skin colour, for a perfect gradient crease look.
- Now take the same brown shadow and blend it below the lower waterline. Apply a shimmery taupe eyeshadow on the lid and inner 1/3rd of the eyes for a more opened up look. Create a more defined outer V with a black eye shadow.
- Tightline the upper lash line with intense black kohl. Draw a thin winged liner and a lot of mascara to complete the eye look. Extend the wing to the inner corner for an Arabic liner finish.
- Highlight the brow bone with shimmer pearl highlighter and inner corner of the eye with a gold shimmer highlighter.
- Now correct the undereye if required with a peach corrector.
- Apply foundation using a stippling brush or beauty blender. Conceal the under eyes if needed.
- Use a highlighting concealer to the high points of face and contour on required places.
- Set the contour and highlight with translucent powder or contour powder. Apply a pink blush. You may go heavy with the blush as this is the focal point of this look.
- Finish off with a semi-matte ruby red lip colour.
Zoey Deutch’s Fresh Face Look
This year Zoey was seen in a bright yellow flared jumpsuit by Fendi which was coined as the ‘modern-day interpretation of a red-carpet gown’ by Harper’s Baazar magazine. She opted for a subtle fresh face inspired by 70’s – taupe toned subtle smokey eyes with a thin rim of the liner. The look was complemented with soft bronzing and naturalistic brows for a vibrant and youthful result.
Steps to recreate this look:
- Cleanse the skin; moisturise the face and neck. Apply face primer.
- Use a corrector under the eyes and any pigmentation you wish to hide as bright under eyes is a must for this fresh look.
- Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone. Try to create a flawless base as clear glowing skin is the central attraction for this look.
- Now, comb your brows and fill them with a brown or grey brow powder or cream. Comb again with a spooley brush for finished look. We want a natural finish here so don’t draw strong brows.
- Tightline the upper waterline. Apply a matte beige or tan eyeshadow 1-2 tones darker than your skin tone. Use a fluffy brush for a soft wash of colour. Apply the same shadow on the bottom lid with a pencil brush.
- Now take a black or black-brown shadow in a flat brush and build it up in a thin line in the upper lid. Smudge and blend to the crease shade so that there is no harsh line. Leave the inner corner for a light bone coloured shimmer highlighter.
- Apply a beige kohl in the lower waterline and two coats of mascara to finish the eye look. You may also use false lashes as Zoey has done here.
- Apply a light peach blush and contour the face lightly to chisel out your facial features.
- Dab on a cool-toned semi-matte lip colour.Winnie Harlow’s Blue Smokey Look
Winnie Harlow’s Blue Smokey Look
Winnie Harlow never fails to stun us! Here she opted for a stunning shimmer smokey eye with blues. The rest of the makeup is minimalistic which enhanced her natural beauty.
Steps to recreate this look:
- Cleanse the skin; moisturise the face and neck. Apply a face primer.
- Use a corrector for the under eyes and any pigmentation you want to hide.
- Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone.
- Apply cream contour and matte liquid highlighter. Blend with soft stippling motion until it gives a nice gradient effect.
- Now set the contour with a cool-toned matte bronzer and highlighted areas using a banana powder.
- Fill the brows with light hands so that the finish looks natural.
- For the eyes, take the same contour powder used for face or a matte brown eyeshadow and create a soft yet defined crease. Apply a navy blue kohl or cream eye shadow base and apply to the lids. Blend well to create a smooth transition between the crease and lid.
- Take navy blue glitters and place it on the inner 1/3td of the eyelid; intensify the outer V with a black or deep blue and blend it with the shimmer.
- Apply a thin line of liquid or gel liner on the upper lid and tight line the upper waterline. Use a blue kohl fo the lower waterline and smudge it with the outer V matte blue eye shadow.
- Do not forget to highlight brow bone and inner corners of the eyes. Use a satin finish bone colour for that.
- Apply mascara and wear a length plus volume false lash pair.
- Finish it off with a matte cool-toned brown nude lipstick followed by a clear gloss.
Lucy Boynton’s Bold Graphic Liner Look
Lucy is quite famous for artistic and experimental looks. Here her makeup partner Jo Baker has created this unique galactic cat eyes going miles beyond everyone’s expectation. She sported glittery eye with minimal face makeup that beautifully balanced the look.
Steps to recreate this look:
- On a cleansed and moisturised skin, apply a face primer and conceal dark spots. We want a clear canvas for this artistic look.
- Now put on the foundation in a sheer layer. Blend well with a beauty blender or any blending sponge for a flawless finish. Build the base little by little without using too much product at a time.
- Set the foundation with powder with slight shimmers.
- Give the illusion of a chiselled face using cream contour and highlighter followed by powder bronzer and highlighter. Don’t go overboard with this because the main focus is going to be the eye makeup.
- Fill in the brows to get a natural finish. Comb them upwards and apply clear brow gel so that each of the brow hair remains separated.
- Take a fluffy blending brush and apply a cool-toned brown matte or satin eyeshadow all over the lid. Lightly highlight the brow bone and inner corner of the eyes with a shimmer pearl highlighter.
- Apply a creamy satin finish taupe eyeshadow on the eyelid; try to create a dramatic thick wing with it covering the lid and crease.
- Take a black glitter eyeliner and create a graphic cat liner look with it. Fill the area inside it or the outer V area with chunky silver shimmer.
- Tightline the upper lid with a black kohl and apply 2-3 coats of mascara. You can also add in some individual false lashes.
- Apply a peach-toned blush on the cheek and powder matte peach lipstick.
Ana de Armas’ Red Lips Red Blush Look
Ana has given us a new definition of classic beauty through her red-peach cheeks and fiery red lips. Created by French makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis, this look can be emulated for several events.
Steps to recreate this look:
- Cleanse the skin; moisturise the face and neck. Apply a face primer.
- Use a corrector under eyes and any pigmentation you wish to hide. Bright under eyes is a must for red or burgundy lips.
- Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone. Try to create a flawless base because clear glowing skin is the central attraction for this look.
- Now, comb your brows and fill them with a brown or grey brow powder or cream. Comb again with a spooley brush for finished look. The look should be absolutely natural.
- Tightline the upper waterline. Apply a matte beige or tan eyeshadow 1-2 tones darker than your skin tone. Use a fluffy brush for a soft wash of colour. Apply the same shadow on the bottom lid with a pencil brush. The lower lash should have just a faint hint of colour. Do not forget the inner corner highlighting.
- Put on 2 coats of mascara and a natural false lash pair to finish the eye look.
- Apply a light red-peach blush and contour the face lightly to chisel out your facial features.
- Apply a classic red matte lip colour.
