Try a soothing DIY hair spa at home

The hustle-bustle of our daily life often takes away the ‘me time’ from us. We end up having tons of hair issues like dandruff, hair fall, hair breakage, split ends and many more. Hair spa is an essential step for problem-free hair. It is a one-stop treatment for all our hair troubles. A single sitting of hair spa changes the entire outlook of our hair. It rejuvenates our scalp and hair, relaxes the body and helps to unwind most soothingly. These are just a few reasons behind the immense popularity of hair spa at salons and spa centres. It may surprise us, but we can get the same salon spa effect in the convenience of our own home too. You’ll need a little know-how and a few products at hand. This easy-breezy at-home hair spa will save your hard-earned money too! Check out our hair spa at home guide and be your own spa-specialist!

Dry Brushing for Tangle-free Hair

Before beginning the spa treatment, you need to prepare your hair. You won’t reap the maximum benefit of the spa if your hair is a tangled mess. So, start with gentle combing with a wooden comb like Beardo Wooden Comb. Wooden comb prevents static electricity and frizz. Detangle the ends first and then proceed towards the root. Gentle combing helps to distribute the natural scalp oil and also provides a relaxing massaging effect. Combing also increases blood flow in the scalp and stimulates hair growth.

Hot Oil Massage

The next step is the oil massage. Oil massage nourishes dry scalp and hair and strengthens your hair. Take some natural or cold-pressed natural oil like Parachute Advanced Coconut Oil or Ayurvedic oil like Dabur Vatika Anti Hairfall Oil. If you like almond oil, try Bajaj Almond Drops. Warm it up in a double boiler or microwave it for a few seconds. Section out your hair and apply the oil to your scalp with a cotton ball. Start massaging with your fingertips. Apply slight pressure but don’t do vigorous rubbing. Massage the scalp for 10-15 minutes. Coat the hair strands with a generous amount of oil.

Steam for Soft Hair

The effect of oil multiplies with steaming. Hair steaming increases the penetration of oil into the scalp and the cuticle layer of hair strands. It also softens the hair, reduces the frizz and makes hair stronger. Take a tub of warm water. Dip your hair towel in it. Squeeze the water out and wrap your oiled hair in it. Wait for 4-5 minutes and repeat for 1-2 times. If you want to avoid this lengthy procedure, take a wet towel and wrap your hair in it. Blow-dry the towel in medium heat setting for a few minutes. Never skip the towel or this trick will damage your hair. You may also invest in a good quality hair steaming machine.

Cleanse Away the Impurities

Wait for 15-20 minutes after hair steaming and proceed to the next step. In this step, you have to wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Choose your hair wash according to the hair type you have. For dull and dry hair Dove Intense Repair Shampoo works best. For normal or oily roots and dry end hair L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Shampoo works well. If you have extremely oily hair try clarifying washes like Sunsilk Green Tea & White Lily Freshness Shampoo. Dilute the shampoo with a little water and then concentrate on the scalp. Apply just a tiny bit of hair wash on the hair strands to prevent damage.

Deep Conditioning

Deep Conditioning is the most crucial step of any hair spa. In this step, we use a deep moisturizing conditioner on hair strands. The spa cream replenishes the moisture level, rejuvenates the hair and helps with the annoying issue of frizz. Choose a deep conditioner as per your hair’s current condition and troubles. For dandruff prone hair choose something with amla, lemon or tea tree. For hair fall, choose onion-based spa creams like Mamaearth Onion Hair Mask. For dry hair, try protein and argan oil-based masks like Schwarzkopf Gliss Hair Repair Serum Deep Repair Intensive Recovery Mask. Homemade curd-banana-olive oil mask performs equally well. Apply the deep conditioner on the hair strands and let it seep for 20 minutes. Wash off with plain water.

Finish It Up with Hair Serum

Hair spa provides you with an instant boost of nourishment. Unless we lock it into our hair, the effect won’t last long. Hair serum serves this purpose. It is a kind of dry oil that keeps our hair tangle-free, manageable and shiny. To finish your home hair spa treatment, take coin-sized hair serum on your palm. Apply it only on the semi-dry hair strands. Don’t pull or drag on hair while applying hair serum. It will damage the hair and cause unnecessary hair fall. Matrix Biolage Smoothproof 6-In-1 Deep Smoothing Serum and Livon Serum For Dry & Unruly Hair are two amazing serums for dry and brittle hair. The chemical-free formula of The Moms Co. Natural Protein Hair Serum works great on all hair types.
