During childhood, watching mom prep and cook food was so exciting and wondrous. Curiosity always led us to participate in small activities of cooking and experimenting. Wheat dough was our first clay even before we played with the actual one. This children’s day, why not make memories with your kids and also relive how much you enjoyed cooking with loved ones?
Learning to cook is not just a teaching phase but also gives children the confidence to do anything they put their minds to. We have lined up some fun, easy, and tasty recipes for you to make with your kids. Just like how you cherish your memories, make the same for them.
1. Chocolate Banana Bites

Let’s add some magic to the regular banana and make a delicious dessert your child will love. These chocolate banana bites are not just a nutritious snack but also hold layers of flavours and textures to enjoy.
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour 45 minutes

Ingredients
- 4 bananas
- 1 cup sweetened milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon almonds
- 2 tbsp cup milk
- Butter paper
- Toothpicks
Method
- Slice the bananas into 1-inch slices and spread them out on a butter paper.
- Smear peanut butter on top of the banana slices and top it up with one more banana slice like a sandwich.
- Arrange them on the butter paper and pierce toothpicks in each of them from top to bottom.
- Freeze it for 1-2 hours based on the peanut butter hardening a bit.
- Meanwhile, prepare the chocolate coating by taking a small pan and pouring in 1 tbsp milk and the chocolate chips.
- In low flame continuously stir and bring the chocolate to melt. You can add a bit more milk to adjust the thickness consistency. Note not to make it too watery as the coating won’t sit well.
- Pour into a bowl and set it aside to cool.
- Take a small pan and dry roast almonds on medium flame. Cool and crush them into pieces.
- Mix the chocolate and the almonds.
- Take the banana out of the freezer, hold the toothpick and dip it into the chocolate till it spreads and covers both sides.
- Let the excess chocolate drip into the bowl before placing the dipped banana on the butter paper again.
- Freeze again for 2-3 hours based on how fast the chocolate on the banana hardens.
2. Mini Fruity Popsicles

Who doesn’t love a popsicle? Even better, which kid would not love to make their own and slurp away? This easy-peasy recipe is something you can make with your children. With the goodness of seasonal fruits, the mini popsicles will be a big hit for you and your kids.
Prep time: 20-30 minutes
Cook time: 6-8 hours (freezing)

Ingredients
- 15 orange slices
- 15 pineapple cubes
- 20 grapes
- ½ cup honey (optional)
- 1 lemon (optional)
- 1 glass water
- Mini popsicle moulds or 1 large ice tray
- Ice cream sticks or toothpicks
Method
- Take a blender or a juicer and individually blend each of the fruits.
- Based on the sweetness of each fruit.
- Take a strainer and start pressing each fruit juice and its pulp through it into a bowl.
- Based on the sweetness, add honey to taste while blending to enhance the flavours.
- You can squeeze in a few drops of lemon to the orange or pineapple puree to add zing.
- Add 2-3 tsp of water in each pureed fruit cup to adjust the thickness consistency. Remember not to make it too watery.
- In one half of the mould/ice tray, take a spoon or a small ladle and pour the orange mix till it’s half full.
- On top of it, pour the pineapple mix.
- In the other half of the mould/ice tray, pour the grape mix fully.
- If you use a mould, the next step is to freeze the popsicles for 6-8 hours till they are set or freeze overnight.
For the Ice Tray Method
- Once you pour the fruit mixes, freeze them for 1-2 hours till they are semi-solid. Check every 30 minutes.
- Cut toothpicks into half and insert them in the middle of each cube.
- Freeze them for 6-8 hours or overnight.
3. Cheesy Popcorn Balls

Popcorn? Yes! Cheese? Yes! A cheerful answer from the kids. Evening snacks can sometimes need a lot of thought and especially with kids, parents would love for them to have something apart from junk. Cheesy popcorn balls is your go-to snack and super easy. Let your kids have fun making and eating this yummy snack.
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes

Ingredients
- 8 cups ready popcorn or microwave popcorn
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
- Butter paper
Method
- If you are using kernels, pop them and cool them before you start. You can use readily-popped ones as well.
- Pour the popcorn into a large bowl. You can use them whole to make the balls or gently break them with your hand and use them as well.
- Take a small pan and add butter. Melt it on a low flame and then add the shredded cheese. Stir till the cheese melts.
- Pour layer by layer on the bowl of popcorn so it spreads and coats well.
- Mix gently using a spoon.
- Let it sit for up to a minute.
- Take a large plate or tray and place butter paper on it.
- Grease your hands with a little oil.
- Scoop half a handful and start forming a ball using both your palms and fingers.
- Set them on the butter paper and let them cool.
- Serve within the next hour or the popcorn will lose its crunch.
