Recipe: Jamun Seed Powder

Most people discard the seeds without a second thought. That is the most useful part of the fruit. This DIY seed powder takes a few days of patience and gives you three months of a daily wellness habit. Make a batch now and thank yourself later.

Prep Time: 10 mins (active) | Drying Time: 3-5 days | Makes: 100g powder (lasts ~2 months)

Ingredients:

  • 300g fresh jamun seeds (reserved while eating fresh fruit or from vendors)
  • Dry, airtight glass container

Method:

  1. Collect jamun seeds throughout the season. Wash and pat completely dry.
  2. Spread seeds on a clean cloth in direct sunlight for 3-5 days until completely brittle and dry.
  3. Once fully dry, grind in a mixer/blender into fine powder. Grind in small batches for best results.
  4. Pass through a fine sieve to remove any larger pieces.
  5. Store in a sterilised, airtight glass container in a cool, dry place.
  6. Lasts up to 3 months when stored properly.

How to Use:

  • ½ teaspoon, twice daily with warm water after meals
  • Mix with warm milk for enhanced absorption
  • Add to yoghurt for daily wellness

Pro Tip: Make this during jamun season and store for year-round use. This is the most potent form of jamun medicine—Ayurvedic practitioners recommend this preparation for serious blood sugar concerns.
