Foods that will help foster your child’s brain development

Did you know? As per various medical studies, 90% of brain development of a child takes places by the age of 6. So what can you do to ensure that your child’s brain development takes place in a proper and optimum way? One of the best ways to do to this is through proper nutrition and diet. Take a look at the food that will help foster your child’s brain development:

Salmon

Brain growth and stellar functioning are often fueled by Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA and EPA. These components can be most commonly found in fish, particularly in salmon. It would be a good idea to swap the tuna for salmon in the sandwich or the salad so that the child gets to ingest this particular ingredient on a regular basis. You can lightly garnish and sauté salmon to help your child take to the taste and the texture of the same. You can also add salmon to soups and serve it to your little one with some vegetables.

Eggs

An egg is known to be a keeper in many a pantry, and you would do well to give your child at least one egg a day. In fact, for the development of the child’s memory, you must turn to eggs. While introducing solids to the baby, a half boiled egg is one of the perfect breakfast items that you can give the child. Try omelettes and scrambled eggs for the toddler or simply make an egg sandwich so that the daily quota of an egg can be met. This is also a great protein source for children. While many children may struggle with the yellow or the yolk of the egg, you should teach them to take to it since the main protein lies there.

Peanuts

If you are sure that the child is not suffering from any nut-based allergy, then you would do well to include a healthy dose of peanuts in the diet chart. This is because peanuts are packed with Vitamin E, which provides glucose to the brain for optimum growth and good development of the nerves as well. This powerful antioxidant is required for the growth of the child’s brain and brain power, in equal measure. Peanut butter sandwiches and toasted peanuts for a snack would be a good idea. Do not give too much of peanuts at a time, as it may lead to loose motions.

Whole grains

When the child ingests fibre, there is a release of glucose in the system, which further propels the growth and development of the body and the brain along with the complex of muscles, nerves, and more. This fibre can be derived from a daily intake of whole grains that must be given to the child. This is why carbohydrates are important for the growth and development of babies and toddlers. You can give the child rotis and rice along with dal, as well as grains like sunflower seeds, watermelon seeds, cucumber seeds, gourd seeds, and the like. This will fortify and enhance the glucose content in the body so that the child keeps replenishing the calories lost while running around.

Oats

This is a wonder food that all children must have every single day. Not only does it contain Vitamin B and E, but oatmeal is also a good source of potassium and zinc, which works wonders for the body and the brain. A day that starts with oats is an energetic one as oats give you a dose of energy with each spoonful. So make sure that you either cook the oats in milk and serve it up with some chopped fruit, or create a khichdi or poha for a salty version of the same.

Berries

To help avoid deadly diseases and keep the growth cells moving, you can make use of the powerful antioxidants that are found in berries. In fact, with berries, the darker the better. Reach out for strawberries, blueberries, black currants, red cherries, and more so that the child gets plenty of brain power-enhancing nutrition. You should swap that bag of chips with a bowlful of cherries and berries so that the child develops a taste for the same.

Beans

Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in kidney beans and other forms of beans. Therefore, one meal should contain a dose of this ingredient as well. Make a salad or a stew for the child with these beans so that proper brain development is guaranteed!

Take out the junk and bring in these simple ingredients to create a healthy start for your child. Ensure that the child always has plenty of fresh ingredients in the day for complete brain and physical development.
